7 Possible Causes of Frequent Urination

If you’re reading this article, you have probably asked yourself, “ Why am I peeing so much?”. Frequent urination can feel uncomfortable and like your bladder is always full. This problem may be caused by various factors like pregnancy, infection, hormonal issues, etc.  To get rid of frequent urination, it’s important to find the root cause of the problem. Below are 7 possible reasons why you might be peeing all the time:

    1. Diuretics

Some beverages like soda, coffee, and tea may act as diuretics which means they can increase your peeing frequency. And reducing soda, tea, and coffee consumption might help you pee less frequently.

Taking some medications that contain diuretics can also lead to frequent urination. For instance, certain drugs to treat high blood pressure and certain birth control pills contain drospirenone which is considered a diuretic.

    2. Uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids are abnormal growths that occur in and on your uterus. Actually, they are the most common benign tumors in women. And sometimes these growths can manifest themselves by frequent urination. This is due to the fact that fibroids can become so large that it presses on the bladder and thus makes you want to pee all the time.

Other symptoms of uterine fibroids include heavy bleeding, painful periods, pain during sex, complications during pregnancy, and even difficult to get pregnant. If you suspect symptoms related to fibroids, talk to your gynecologist.

    3. Urinary tract infection

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, a urinary tract infection occurs when bacteria from your bowels enter your bladder, urethra or kidneys. This causes inflammation and irritation in your bladder which can, in turn, lead to frequent urination.

It’s impossible to treat urinary tract infection on your own, therefore you need to talk to your doctor for antibiotics. Of course, if you are not able to actually go to your doctor due to coronavirus pandemic and if you suspect UTI, you should get in touch with a medical provider as soon as possible since UTI can progress into a kidney infection if left untreated.

    4. Eating foods and drinks that irritate the bladder

Yes, certain foods and drinks can irritate your bladder and cause frequent urination. These include coffee, tea, alcohol carbonated beverages, spicy foods, citrus fruits, tomato-based products, and chocolate. However, this doesn’t happen to everyone who consumes these drinks and foods.

    5. Drinking too much water

No wonder that the more water and other liquids you drink, the more you’ll pee. Just try to monitor how much water you’re taking in. Actually, you can understand whether you’re drinking enough liquids as you need through the color of your urine. If it’s clear or light yellow, this means you’re getting enough water and your body is well hydrated. But if the urine is crystal clear and you’re peeing too much, this can indicate you’re drinking too much water.

    6. Diabetes

Actually, frequent urination can be a symptom of diabetes. This is due to the fact that your kidneys work much more to filter your blood from excess sugar. Pay attention to other diabetes symptoms like frequent thirst, fatigue, vision problems, and frequent infections.

    7. Pregnancy

According to Mayo Clinic, oftentimes, blood volume can increase during the first trimester of pregnancy which makes your kidneys work through the excess fluid that occurs in your blood. Additionally, before delivery, your child starts to move down through your pelvis and put more weight on your bladder.
