Five Alarming Consequences of a Sedentary Lifestyle You Should Know

In the modern world, many people maintain a sedentary lifestyle due to office work. In addition to the fact that it can spoil your posture, a sedentary lifestyle can lead to certain dangerous and unpleasant conditions. That’s why it is extremely important to monitor your position.

Even if you go to the gym or pool after work, you will not let yourself get fat. However,  all other risks remain. It is better to get up every hour and do a five-minute run across the floors than sit for eight hours and then sweat for two hours in the gym. In this article, we gathered five alarming consequences of a sedentary lifestyle you should know.

    1. Back pain

When you sit constantly, your back may become achy because of the loads it undergoes. Lack of physical activity negatively affects the bones of the spine and back muscles. This leads to chronic pain that makes it difficult to move. As a result, your muscles hurt because you move a little, and you move a little because your muscles hurt.

If you don’t want to experience back pain for ages, it is important to move more. Try to walk home (if you can) and exercise a little throughout the working day. However, if the pain doesn’t disappear, it is better to visit a pain doctor to evaluate your condition and perform the proper treatment.

    2. Varicose veins

Varicose veins are considered an extremely common condition that mostly affects women after childbirth and both women and men who maintain a sedentary lifestyle. This is a condition in which the valves in your veins lose the ability to lift the blood. That’s why the blood accumulated in legs and cause varicose veins.

Despite the fact that varicose veins are considered a more cosmetic issue, they can cause unpleasant symptoms like leg cramping, swelling, itching, and even bleeding. In such cases, it is better to make an appointment with the vein doctor.

    3. Excessive weight

Extra pounds can appear because of many reasons (for example, certain medical conditions or overeating). People who tend to sit at least eight hours a day are also prone to gain weight. Moreover, coffee brakes with cookies and pizza-lunches also leave their imprints on our bodies.

Excessive weight is quite dangerous since overweight people may experience shortness of breath, fatigue, back pain, leg pain, etc. If you have noticed that you can’t fit your hips into your bellowed jeans, it’s high time to lose some pounds.

    4. Depression

A sedentary lifestyle also negatively affects mental health. People who constantly sit, have insufficient production of endorphins are more prone to depression. Endorphins are chemicals that are responsible for your good mood. That’s why physical activity is essential not only for your body but also for your mood.

In addition, lack of physical activity leads to increased stress. Employees who are engaged in sedentary work for more than six hours a day tend to overexert themselves faster and endure unpleasant situations harder.

    5. Constipation

Due to the fact that you may sit with the slouched back, this can cause pressure on your intestines. As a result, you may experience constipation and other digestive issues. Lack of activity weakens the muscles and they can’t create intra-abdominal pressure. As a result, you may have problems with defecation.

Moreover, your position during bowel movements is important as well. If you block the anus, it would be more difficult to defecate. That’s why you should keep your back straight and be sure that your intestines are not pressed.
